Now is the time to sow seeds! And it couldn't be easier! By planting seeds indoors, you can have them ready to continue their journey in the garden. Just follow these simple steps to learn how to grow seeds at home. The hardest part is deciding what seeds to grow. The list is endless. You can grow kitchen herbs, wheatgrass (learn more about growing wheatgrass here), watercress, the list goes on. Or you can start growing vegetables and get them started before planting outside. The weather is really not favourable right now to put anything into the ground. So, get a head start and get the seeds going indoors ready to plant out when the weather improves.
Step 1: Re-use coffee cups! Many people own reusable coffee cups these days, which is great for the environment. On the days we forget them, we end up getting coffee in a non recyclable cup and we don't know what to do with it. Use this coffee cup as as a plant pot.
So grab your coffee cup, or plant pot, and fill it with compost such as Horkans Complete Compost.
Step 2: Sow the seeds on top of the soil, covering them with a light cover of soil or Perlite and cover it over with the lid.
Step 3: Simply place your cup on a bright windowsill, wait for up to seven days and your plant will begin to sprout.
In no time you can have herbs, watercress, wheatgrass to add to salads, smoothies or eat fresh from the cup! Its a great weekend project to do with the children.
