Horkans Love in the Garden

Love in the Garden

Love is in the air...and also in the garden. Here at Horkans, we're all about bringing the love to your garden. In this blog we'll tell you how to bring your romantic wild side to the outdoors.

The Roots to your Heart

Why not celebrate your loved one this Valentines Day by getting them something that'll last. While a bouquet of flowers may seem like an easy choice, the perfect gift can be grown simply in the ground. So why not plant a rose bush this Valentine's to plant the roots to your #LoveGoals! Roses will keep blooming for years, just like your relationship will. The best part is how easy they are to grow. You can learn more about how to care for roses here.

If you'd like to plant something with a family member, how about planting an apple tree together. This is a great weekend project for grandparents and grandchildren. You can read more about the benefits of growing fruit trees here.

Love your Lawn...feed

Your partner isn't the only one who requires some attention this Valentines. Make sure you show your lawn some love this year. Use Zero Lawn Liquid to remove moss, followed by a good feed of Osmo after 2-3 days to perk it up and make it a lovely, luscious green. With the use of these products, your garden will get the attention it deserves this Valentines Day.

Birds and the Bees

As many of you may know, our bee population is starting to get worryingly smaller. So this Valentines, show our buzzing bees some love and plant a bee garden. Give them their own special place to do what they do best - pollination. Here are some plants your bees will thank you for: Lavender, Sage, Geraniums and many more. You could even try a Honey Bee Mix which is designed to attract pollinators and increase honey production.

Fill your Valentines weekend with song by attracting the songbird to serenade you on this day of love. Bird watching is known to reduce stress levels, having great effects on your health and well-being. You can read more about the benefits of a wild bird presence in your garden here

A Valentine's Vegepod

The Vegepod is the perfect project for you and your partner. It's a self-watering, raised garden bed that protects your crop from bad weather, pests and wildlife.

Fill it with the fruits of your labour, or spice it up by adding some spices or herbs. After all, couples who grow together - stay together!

The Leaf of Love

Did you know there is a plant that looks exactly like lips? While it's out of season at the moment, it comes back into season early summer where it will be available in store.. With a quirky name like 'Hot Lips', the plant would be a great saucy gift to give to the one you lock lips with.

Sow your Seeds

They say the way to a heart is through the stomach. Why not spice up your window sill garden and plant some Chilli or Spicy Oriental Salad seeds. February is an ideal time to sow seeds and your reward will be succulent, healthy, homegrown fruits and veg.

Make sure you give yourself, your garden and our wildlife all the love this Valentines Day.
