Paraic’s Plant Of The Month: July 2019

Runaway Bride is Paraic's July plant of the month. It is one of the most floriferous hydrangeas with six times more flowers than the average hydrangea. It gets its name from the endless amount of flowers it produces from June to early winter. This flowering plant is a new introduction to the Irish plant market and has won a number of awards for its outstanding garden qualities. Hydrangea 'Runaway Bride' was awarded the prestigious title of Plant of the Year for 2018 at the Chelsea Flower Show!

Runaway Bride produces pure white, single flowers in clusters. These later turn to a beautiful soft pink colour. Often, you get the combination of both white and pink blushed flowers from summer until early winter. Most Hydrangeas produce just one bloom on the end of each branch, whilst the Runaway Bride flowers from the lateral buds along the length of each stem. This means lots more flowers for you to enjoy over a longer period.

Hydrangea Runaway Bride is a medium sized shrub ideal for planting in patio pots or directly into the garden soil. It will grow in all soil types and will tolerate shade or full sun. As mentioned, it rewards you with continuous flower from early summer until early winter. It also flowers in its first year of planting.
