Horkans Summer Family Farm | Learn to Garden

Horkans Summer Family Farm is back! From Thursday 16th - Sunday 26th August Horkans Garden Centre Castlebar will be transformed into a place of learning and fun for families of all ages. With different events happening over the 10 days, we have plenty for all the family!

Come along to our Horkans Summer Family Farm and meet our farm yard animals, including Napoleon the goat, donkeys, ducks, giant rabbits, guinea pigs, reptiles, creepy crawlies and much more. These animals live with our store pet experts so they are well used to being patted and tickled.

Feeding times are 12pm and 4pm daily. Children are invited to help us feed the animals, we encourage them to ask questions so they can learn about the animal too.

So what's new this year?

This year we are introducing children’s gardening classes. 'I’ve learned to grow at Horkans’ Children will be taught by our expert gardeners how to sow seeds or plant a small flower. These classes will take place on Saturday and Sunday only at 1.30pm and 2.30pm. Children can bring the seeds/plant home, feed and water them bring them back again to our Halloween event in October and show us how well they have grown.

Also new to this years Summer Farm is our Reptile Workshop! This workshop is aimed at families looking to get a reptile and want to know the how to go about caring for one and the costs and time involved. The Reptile Workshop takes place on Wednesday 22nd August at 11am.

And of course our friends from Paw Patrol, Chase and Marshall will be going crazy in the store on Friday Saturday and Sunday at 1pm and 3pm.

Fairy Tale Weekend!

This year we have added a Fairy Tale theme to our event. Saturday 25th - Sunday 26th August is Fancy Dress Weekend. Children are asked to come dressed as their favourite Fairy Tale characters and have fun. There will be face painting, magic wand making and story time will be happening throughout the day.
